While forms of restorative and cosmetic dentistry go back many hundreds of years, the kind…
Spring is in the air, and that means three things: spring cleaning, spring forward, and spring break! Of course, when we talk about spring cleaning, we usually mean tidying up the house, but here at your Overland Park dentist, we like to think that spring is also a great time to help make sure your teeth and gums are clean and healthy. So, here are a few ways to help ensure that you enjoy awesome oral health this spring!
Spring Cleaning: For most of us, a part of our usual spring cleaning routine includes replacing things around the house that are worn out. We put away our winter clothes and break out the swimwear and the sports equipment, but we also toss out those worn snow boots or that leaf blower that no longer works. While you’re re-organizing and de-cluttering your home, consider taking a look at your whole family’s oral health care kit. The change of seasons is a great time to replace old toothbrushes—or brush heads on your electric toothbrushes—while also checking the expiration dates on everything from toothpaste to mouthwash and oral rinses. While you’re at the store, you can also pick up new floss or floss picks for the whole family, and update your travel kit with new travel-sized versions of all of the above!
Spring Forward: While Daylight Saving Time may have technically already happened, it’s never too late to “spring forward” in your approach to oral care! Spring and summer are the time for vacations, for spending time outdoors with friends and family. We’ll be smiling more, shooting more selfies, and enjoying everything that life has to offer, so it’s a great time to schedule a dental cleaning for everyone in the family, along with a tooth whitening procedure for adults who want to look their best for that next vacation photo.
It’s also been a few months since New Year’s Day, so now might be a good time to revisit some of those resolutions that will help you maintain healthy teeth and gums. Did you plan to cut back on sugary soda and sports drinks this year, or maybe give up tobacco products? Even if you didn’t quite make your resolution, it’s never too late for a fresh start, and spring is a perfect time to dedicate yourself to a more forward-looking approach to your daily oral care routine, including brushing, flossing, and regular trips to your Overland Park dentist.
Spring Break: If you’re planning a big trip for spring break—or a summer vacation with the whole family—it’s probably time to start getting ready. That means more than just packing your favorite lounging-on-the-beach clothes—it also means getting a dental cleaning (and maybe some tooth whitening) before you go, as well as making sure that your travel kit is stocked with a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss or floss picks, and anything else you might need for your trip. If you’re going to be in the car for a long summer road trip, it’s also a great idea to pack a cooler with plenty of water and healthy snacks to discourage you from going overboard on road food and sugary soft drinks that may be bad for your teeth.
